Ensuring Support for Caregivers

Family caregivers are the unsung heroes of Alzheimer’s and dementia care, providing essential support that keeps loved ones safe and connected. Caregiving takes both a financial and emotional toll on loved ones, which is why the bipartisan Credit for Caregiving Act was introduced on March 11, 2025, by Representatives Mike Carey (R-OH) and Linda Sánchez (D-CA) and Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) and Michael Bennet (D-CO). Congresswoman Sánchez, who cared for both of her parents after their Alzheimer’s diagnoses, shared her personal story at the National Alzheimer’s Summit in September 2025, highlighting why this legislation matters to millions of families.

UsAgainstAlzheimer’s supports the Credit for Caregiving Act, which would provide caregivers up to $5,000 in federal tax relief to help cover costs like home safety improvements, transportation, and respite care, giving caregivers a short break while a trained professional looks after their loved one. Family caregivers are the backbone of our care system, and Congress can deliver long-overdue relief.

Take action now to support this important legislation and stand with caregivers nationwide.
